As modding for Empire At War grows, a help thread becomes essential. Ask any modification questions here. These questions can be anything related to Empire At War modification, not solely graphical editing. I will also be including an FAQ database of all the questions asked for later reference.

Before going of in a rant about "How do I mod?", I shall soon be releasing some tutorials (hopefully). At the moment there arn't many out by other people, however those which I know of are linked in Mod Central at the bottem. If you know of any links to add to Mod Central, please post a link and title to them and I'll get them up right away!

How do I get access to the files?
There are a three ways I currently recommend:

Can I add or edit models?
At the moment, no. EAW uses .ALA/.ALO file endings for it's models. Untill someone creates an importer for 3dStudio Max or another modeling program, adding or editing models will not be possible.

Can I add or change textures?
Yes! All file endings are .dds and won't load on standard graphic editing software without a plugin. Nvidia Have a very nice selection of plugins/tools for editing these files however. This is currently the only thing that graphic designers can currently edit.

srry if this is a noobish question, but how do you increace the number of companies for ground units? the default is 2 but i want to increase it to somewhere around 4 or 5. how would i do this?

OK, I want to give the Rebels AT-ATs so that both the Rebels and Empire have access to them. I followed the rules in the Modding tutorial to the letter in order to do it but the game still keeps crashing. So, what do I do?

I need help badly. I want to make the Virago a regular ship buildable by the empire. I don't know how to create it myself. I have found a few mods that have it in them but they are always big mods with dozens of changes, I just want the Virago and nothing else. I tried to pick out the parts of an existing mod that contained what I needed but I only know how to work with the XMl's and I know that there are other things I need to do to make the ship available. I don't much care if the end result is just a simple build icon with zero text as long as it woks.

Please help it is drving me crazy.

I am in need of some assistance. I have downloaded the mod "A Galaxy divided (V3)" and have gotten the game to work, have used new units and everything, except play is the CIS. I cannot select them in Galactic Conquest, and when i choose them in skirmish, i don't get any base, units or anything else. What do I do?

why isn't blender on the list for free edititing tools??? it realy should be there...

and i don't get how there could have been made mods with new models, while the format is not yet cracked???

What you need to do to unlock the episode III units is go to where they are in the XML files and copy and paste the code for the unit you want to unlock above the the original. After copying, change the name of the unit so that the game thinks that it is not an ep iii unit. when you do that then modify it so that it can be built. Does that make sense?
